Veolia and ReStore furnished for success

An enterprising partnership between Haringey Council’s recycling and waste management provider Veolia Environmental Services and furniture reuse scheme ReStore Community Projects has been officially launched today (Thursday 24 November).

The partnership will see Veolia initially divert to ReStore up to 30 collections of good quality reusable or recyclable items of furniture a week from Haringey residents who request their free collection via the Veolia Haringey Contact Centre.
ReStore then sell on the items from their site in Tottenham back to the community, using a two-tier pricing structure that makes items very affordable for those from low-income families.

Speaking at the event, Councillor Nilgun Canver, Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “It is a great pleasure to officially launch the great partnership between ReStore, Veolia and Haringey Council.  ReStore is a very positive scheme for the residents of Haringey; not only does it support families in hardship, but it also promotes sustainability and reuse, helping us become a more sustainable Haringey. I look forward to the partnership developing.”

Fabrice Bouchon, Veolia’ regional manager, commented: “At Veolia we feel it is very important to engage with community organisations and with ReStore we have found a mutually beneficial relationship.  Not only do we help them in terms of diverting and delivering items to them, but we also offer our staff the opportunity to spend a paid half a day volunteering with ReStore, as part of our company’s commitment to its staff to allow them all the opportunity to give something back to their community in this way.”

ReStore’s general manager, Nadeem Razvi, added: “Our partnership with Veolia will enable us to expand our role in the local community enabling us to support more residents through volunteering opportunities and a greater number of items available to buy.”
